New Delhi: While giving a statement in Lok Sabha over the Gurdaspur attack that took place on Monday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh trained guns at the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) on its policy on terrorism.
"I would like to ask everyone to remember how a new term of Hindu terror was invented to divert the attention a few years back. Even Pakistan applauded them. The term 'Hindu terrorists' coined by previous UPA government has weakened India's stand on terrorism," he said.
Rajnath also asserted that the entire country should be united on the issue of eradicating terrorism. "Terrorism is terrorism, it has no religion, no caste. The fight against terrorism is the biggest challenge. The country should not look divided on the matter," he said.
Reiterating government's stand on the fight against extremism, Rajnath said that the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to fight against it. Government has been, and will remain, resolute in this regard. The government is firmly committed to root out terrorism from India. I also assure the House that the government will do everything possible to prevent cross-border terrorism aimed against India," the Home Minister said.
His comments came while he was making statement in Lok Sabha on the Gurdaspur terror attack which claimed 10 lives. He also informed the House that during in July, there were 5 attempts at cross-border infiltration in the J&K sector, out of which 4 were interdicted and 8 terrorists neutralized. In the remaining one instance, the terrorists went back after effective retaliation by the Indian Forces.
He also stated that though the security forces guarding the border are alert, it is a difficult terrain due to recent heavy rains which have resulted in excess flow in the rivers and canals along the border. He added that these could have been the factors because of which the terrorists were able to sneak into Punjab.
