In Samajwadi Party Stronghold, Amit Shah Invokes Army's Surgical Strikes

Etawah (Uttar Pradesh): Addressing locals in the Samajwadi Party bastion of Etawah, BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday invoked the Indian Army’s cross-LoC surgical strikes, despite repeated assurances from senior ministers that the party will not use the operation to win votes in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab next year.

“The Army has done a great job by conducting the surgical strikes. I am proud of that," Shah said. The BJP chief made the statement at a Sankalp Sabha wherein party leaders and locals pledged to bring the BJP back to power in the state. Shah will hold such meeting across the state.

Weighing in on the ongoing power struggle within the Samajwadi Party, Shah said the state’s ruling party was not interested in law order, but ‘lo and order’, an apparent dig at corruption allegations against the Akhilesh Yadav government.

"Chacha and Bhatija (Uncle and nephew) are busy looting and what will be left will be taken by Azam Khan. Law and order has been turned into 'lo and order’,” said the BJP president amid a bitter tug-of-war between Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Yadav.

Taking on BSP chief Mayawati, Amit Shah said the “bua” was no better. Akhilesh Yadav has in the past referred to party rival Mayawati as “bua”, a title the BSP chief didn’t warm up to. “Bhatija and bua can't improve the situation in Uttar Pradesh," he said.
