New Delhi: The Tamil Nadu government and the Centre are involved in a tussle over the appointment of a state cadre IPS officer in the Central Bureau of Investigation. According to sources, IPS officer Archana Ramasundram was appointed by the Centre without having been relieved by the state. This is the first case where an IPS officer joined a central body without permission from the home cadre.
Sources say Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is against her relieving. The case is subjudice and will come up for hearing on Friday.
Sources also said that Ramasundram's appointment was against the recommended name of RK Pachnanda by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). The law states that the government can reject the CVC recommendation but cannot appoint any officer of its own.
