Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced Rs 1 lakh compensation for the victim's family in the Kolkata gangrape case. A senior IPS officer has been sent to Kolkata for coordination with the West Bengal government. The 16-year-old girl succumbed to her burn injuries on Tuesday evening in Kolkata. Her funeral took place on Wednesday evening in Kolkata amid political protests.
Six men are believed to have raped her on October 25. Two days later, the same accused raped her again for registering a complaint with the police. Not stopping at that, the victim and her family were intimidated, pressured and maligned.
On December 23, she was set ablaze and died on December 31 after fighting for her life for over a week. The six accused and two others have been booked and arrested.
