New Delhi: The ruling United Progressive Alliance government has come under attack from both the BJP and the Left parties for failing to put the bill to vote on the Upper House of the Parliament on Monday.
The BJP and the Left parties who are supporting the bill in its present form have expressed their disappointment over the lack of "strategy" on the part of the government in getting the bill passed in Rajya Sabha.
"It was a shame what the government did today. It had a historic opportunity...it had no floor strategy. It didn't even take the opposition parties who were supporting the bill into confidence," CPI-M leader Brinda Karat to CNN-IBN.
"The worst part was that they didn't have strategy to protect the chair. Everyone knew what the opposition was going to do. I just say that if the government can't protect the chair they should just tell us. We'll do it."
The main opposition party, the BJP too has criticised the government for its failure on Monday.
BJP leader Sushma Swaraj blamed the "lack of floor management from the Congress side."
"We told the pm to pass the bill today itself...we told the Prime Minister that we are ready even if voting is done at midnight," Sushma Swaraj said.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has called an all-party meeting on Tuesday to resolve the issue. It is expected to be put to vote on Tuesday.
