Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday blamed the past Congress governments for ignoring primary education in the state. "Past governments (Congress) in the state have sinned by keeping society in the dark and ignoring the primary education in the state," Modi said at the time of inaugurating the eleventh edition of 'Shala Praveshotsav' (school admission festival).

Addressing parents and students in Lihoda village of Dehgam near in Ahmedabad, he said, "If society itself will take the lead in the awareness campaign through education, then not only future generation of Gujarat will be fully educated but state will lead the nation to come out of poverty and illiteracy. "Let us make sure that every child in the state, even of poor parents, every girl and boy in a village, is not deprived of education. This is a big responsibility of the government as it is of the society. So let us make collective efforts," he said.
