New Delhi: Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has received an e-mail from suspected Maoists, threatening to carry out Chhattisgarh-like attacks in the state.
The mail was received on Wednesday night and is the second such mail from the rebels to the CM in last two weeks. The e-mail had threatened to blow up the residence of Naveen Patnaik and important establishments in the state, following which security was beefed up. The earlier mail had threatened to avenge the wounds, allegedly inflicted upon, top Maoist leaders Kishenji and Bikram.
Meanwhile, the government has made clear that they will continue fighting Naxals. Union Home Minister P Chidambaram did not rule out an Air Force offensive. And the Prime Minister too said all options are open. But are the forces ready for this?
The Home minister paid his last salute to the 76 CRPF jawans who lost their lives fighting the Maoists in Dantewara on Tuesday. The row of caskets were a grim reminder of the Maoist brutality. The government made clear its resolve not to strike back immediately but the war will go on.
"I cannot expect instant success for the neglect of last 10-12 yrs. I have also said in the past, we cannot expect instant success. We have paid the price for neglect for the last 10-12 years. This will be a long struggle. This will take 2-3 years, but we must hold our nerves. The fight must remain on course," Chidambaram had said on Wednesday.
"No, there was no question of bringing in the Army. But the government might well take a fresh look at its mandate on use of Air Force."
