NDA Partner Pawan Kalyan 'Disappointed' With Modi Govt Over Andhra Special Status
Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan has hit out at the central government for failing to fulfill its poll promises, especially that of giving a Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Hyderabad: After Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party, another NDA partner in Andhra Pradesh, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan has expressed disappointment with the BJP-ruled central government.

Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday hit out at the NDA government for failing to fulfill its poll promises, especially that of giving a Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh and ignoring the problems of the people of Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking to CNN-News18, Kalyan said, “The promises that were made, were agreed upon by both the Congress and BJP on the floor of the Parliament. But now, the definition of special status has changed within a few months and it has become a package after the state bifurcation. People want accountability of word given in the Parliament."

Kalyan went on to say, “Special package is nothing but an eye wash."

Pawan Kalyan had supported the BJP-TDP alliance in Andhra Pradesh in the 2014 general elections. He now says he wants to create a political pressure in the state and Centre to fulfill his "people's aspirations".

But of late, Pawan Kalyan has been publicly attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government along with the Telugu Desam Party-led state government for turning a deaf ear to the problems of Andhra Pradesh.

"Several BJP leaders, including Arun Jaitley had said that the state is losing a lot and five years is not enough for them. Now, after Modiji came to power, they have changed the definition of special category status," Kalyan said.

“Being an NDA partner, I have brought to their notice the issues of the state several times. I feel it has not reached them for whatever reason. I have immense pressure from the public and I have to stand for them. I have to fight for their justice and their aspirations," the Jana Sena leader said.

Reiterating the issue of a north-south divide, Pawan Kalyan argued, “The elite political class does not understand south India. If the national capital was somewhere in the centre of India, maybe we would have had more voice. Issues are lost while coming all the way to Delhi. The north Indian political class does not pay any heed to the sentiments and hardships of the people here."

Pawan Kalyan has called for all stakeholders to come together on a common platform and put up a united fight for justice for the state.

“Before taking to the street, I want to create political pressure. I would want to bring together all like-minded people who feel the pain. I want to take my fight forward with the ruling TDP, opposition YSR Congress, other imminent leaders and intellectuals in the state who have been fighting for the betterment of the state."

Pawan Kalyan has already announced that his party Jana Sena will fight the 2019 elections in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
