Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, reacting to the demands for fresh elections in the state, on Monday said he was ready to seek a fresh mandate but dared Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold a simultaneous election in Uttar Pradesh, too.

UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya had dared Nitish Kumar to dissolve the assembly and go for fresh elections if he had faith in the developmental works done by his government.

Nitish Kumar reacted strongly to it saying, “A politician was in the state from UP and challenged me to seek a fresh mandate. I am ready for it, but the BJP should dissolve the UP assembly as well. In fact, if BJP has the guts, they should tell all their existing MPs from Bihar and UP to resign and be ready for a re-election. We are ready to face the challenge.”

Union minister and senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Nitish was living in the dark and he should see the kind of mandate BJP has received in the recently held elections.

Bihar Chief Minister is also the President of Janata Dal (United), which is leading the coalition with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress in Bihar.

The BJP has levelled several corruption charges against RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family and questioned Nitish Kumar’s silence over these allegations. Nitish Kumar, on the other hand, has been distancing himself from the corruption charges against Lalu and family, saying JD(U) has different values and he was not accountable for anything related to the RJD.
