'Opposition Bloc Disintegrating': Modi Tears Into Congress's Claim Of Moral Victory In Polls, EVM Manipulation
Referring to AAP leader Gopal Rai's statements about the INDIA bloc fighting the Delhi assembly elections together, senior BJP leader Narendra Modi said the opposition front's "hunger for power" trumped everything else

Senior BJP leader Narendra Modi on Friday attacked the INDIA bloc parties saying the opposition tried to paint the Lok Sabha election results as a loss for the NDA, while the Congress could not even cross 100 seats after 10 years. He said the BJP’s tally in this election was more than the grand old party’s total seats in the last three polls.

In some pointed messaging about the poll results, Modi stressed upon the historic NDA victory and praised key allies TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar. “NDA sarkar thi, NDA sarkar hai; we have not lost even though the opposition tried to paint 2024 Lok Sabha results as loss for us but people of our country know we never lost. I see 2024 Lok Sabha results as grand victory for NDA but opposition tried to reject our victory. Our values are such that victory does not create hysteria and we do not even ridicule the defeated,” he said at the NDA parliamentary party meeting, where he was chosen by the BJP-led NDA as its leader to become prime minister for the third time.

Referring to AAP leader Gopal Rai’s statements about the INDIA bloc fighting the Delhi assembly elections together, Modi said the opposition front’s “hunger for power” trumped everything else. “INDI alliance parties have already started saying alliance was only for LS polls; it shows their character, hunger for power,” he said.

Rai said the INDIA bloc is only for the general elections and there is no tie-up for the Delhi assembly polls yet. Responding to this, Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, too, said the party would like to make it clear that the alliance was only at a national level.

“I think, before elections, we tried to make a strong alliance in the form of INDIA alliance. In this fight to save democracy of the country, a lot of like-minded people came together. AAP too came together with us in Delhi. We contested in good coordination…But I would like to make it clear that our alliance was for Lok Sabha elections… We had discussions with our seniors yesterday too and we are in touch with our colleagues for the next two days too… I am sure that we will work on the shortcomings and by playing the role of a strong Opposition, we will bring Congress back in Delhi too,” he said.

‘INDI alliance belong to previous century…’

Modi also hit out at the opposition for questioning the validity of EVMs and the electoral process conducted by the Election Commission of India. “I strongly feel people of INDI alliance belong to previous century when they question technological advancements like EVMs, Aadhaar. It is the power of India’s democracy that those questioning EVMs and Election Commission were silenced after results,” he added.

Addressing NDA MPs, chief ministers and other senior leaders, Modi said he will strive to ensure unanimity in all decisions of his next government and stressed that the NDA is an organic alliance committed to the principle of “nation first”.

NDA leaders including N Chandrababu Naidu (TDP), Nitish Kumar (JDU), Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena), Chirag Paswan (LJP-RV), H D Kumarswamy (JDS), Ajit Pawar (NCP), Anupriya Patel (Apna Dal-S), Pawan Kalyan (Jana Sena) attended the meeting along with newly elected Lok Sabha members from the ruling alliance.

Modi congratulated the victorious NDA leaders and said he must salute the lakhs of ground workers who worked to ensure this victory. “This is the most successful alliance in the history of our country. It has completed three successful terms and is now entering its fourth.
