Chennai: Lawyers sympathetic to the Tamil Tigers on Tuesday hurled rotten eggs at Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy in the Madras High Court in the presence of the judges and shouted anti-India slogans.
The judges P K Mishra and K Chandru have ordered action against the lawyers. Swamy, who was in the court for a hearing, was whisked away by police.
"The judges took a serious view of the incident," Swamy said later. "I am enjoying this and have asked those who attacked me to convey my thanks to the LTTE for exposing its cowardice once more," he added.
A section of the lawyers have been holding protests over the sufferings of the civilian Tamils in Sri Lanka due to the war between the government forces and the Tamil Tigers.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's son and ruling DMK leader M K Stalin has asked party workers to form a human chain across the state to demand immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders expressed "surprise" on Tuesday at a Puducherry police team's "failure" to arrest movie director Seeman for his alleged seditious speeches around 10 days ago.
"Seeman exhorted people for an armed rebellion protesting over what they alleged is India's collaboration with the Sinhalese army against the LTTE," a source said.
Seeman had been arrested twice in Tamil Nadu since November and was briefly imprisoned for alleged seditious speeches and is presently on conditional bail.
"If the reports are true, we are surprised. We have been told no warrants have been issued and have no knowledge of the police team's presence. Only the centre can effectively stop the killings of innocent Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka," Congress legislature party leader D Sudarsanam said on Tuesday.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Sunday offered India's intervention to stop the civil war in Sri Lanka's if the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam laid down arms.
