New Delhi: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi is likely to be given a larger role in the party. The Gandhi scion will possibly be made the working president or secretary general or the vice president of the Congress party. This is expected to happen after the Cabinet reshuffle, which is likely to take place on Sunday.
Also, in what appears to be a makeover bid, the Congress party is likely to induct some young faces as general secretaries. Apart from these, some senior ministers in the UPA government are expected to be inducted into the party for organisational work.
Meanwhile, according to sources, young leaders like Sachin Pilot and Milind Deora may be upgraded during the Cabinet reshuffle.
This comes even as SM Krishna resigned as the Union External Affairs Minister on Friday. He is now likely to be given an important position in the Karnataka unit of the Congress party.
Sources further said that Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni and Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik have also offered to step down and do party work.
