Yoga guru Ramdev, facing arrest over his 'honeymoon' remarks against Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, has clarified his comment saying he made the statement politically. Ramdev has released pictures and a letter claiming that he respects the Dalits and did not mean to hurt them through his comments.
On Tuesday held yet another press conference in Himachal Pradesh, despite a ban on his campaigns by Election Commission in the state. At the press conference in Chamba, Ramdev accused the Congress of pressuring the Election Commission to act against him.
Ramdev has been booked for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Dalits and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi. At a rally last week, Ramdev had said that Rahul visited the homes of Dalits "for picnics and honeymoon". The remark stirred a hornet's nest with the Congress flaying Ramdev for the disparaging remarks. On Tuesday, four FIRs were registered against him in Gorakhpur, Agra, Patna and Nagpur for insulting Dalits.
At the press conference in Chamba, Ramdev defended himself. "I have never insulted Dalits. I have done so much for them," he said, releasing photos and videos of him touching the Dalits' feet as evidence. "The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister did not allow me to organise camps in the state. That is why this is a conspiracy against me," he said.
