Ready to face Chiranjeevi in polls: Balakrishna
Balakrishna said he was an active worker of the party and would therefore abide by the decisions taken by it.

Paderu: Film actor Nandamuri Balakrishna said he was ready to contest against Chiranjeevi in the 2014 elections, if the TDP wanted him to do so. Appealing to the people to support him, at a press meet at Paderu in Visakhapatnam district on Sunday, the actor said TDP was strong in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.

Responding to the demands of his fans to see him as the chief minister, Balakrishna said he was an active worker of the party and would therefore abide by the decisions taken by it.

"I will contest elections in 2014 from any place that the party decides. I will campaign for the TDP and strengthen it. I was inspired by the contribution of my father to the State," said Balayya amidst cheers.

NTR introduced many welfare schemes for the poor and the needy in the State.

However, currently, welfare programmes were not reaching the beneficiaries, he added. Coming down heavily on the Congress, Balayya said liquor was easily available even in remote areas in the state but  there was no drinking water provision in many places.

Congress leaders colluded with multi-national companies to loot bauxite deposits in agency areas by ignoring the interests of tribals, he alleged.

Later, addressing tribals after unveiling a statue of his father NT Ramarao at V Madugula, Balakrishna said the TDP had been opposing mining as it would ruin the livelihood of tribals.
