Nagapattinam: While literate people trot out various reasons and excuses to skip voting, about 300 'Narikuravas' (gypsies), all from a village near Mayiladuthurai set an example by exercising their franchise on Wednesday.
The nomads, all of whom came in one group, exercised their franchise a little after 8 am in a middle school at Kazhukkanimuttam village near their colony, had brought their Voter's Identity Cards. They did not hesitate or raise any questions on the voting procedure, officials said.
The Narikuravas earn their livelihood by selling combs and other handicrafts.
