While it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surprise lunch in March, it is now an RTI plea that has brought the Parliament canteen back in news. The response to the RTI plea has revealed how the members of Parliament relish a subsidised feast every time they eat in the canteens inside the premises.
While a full vegetable meal is available in the canteen at a cost of Rs 18, a non vegetarian meal can be bought for as low as Rs 33. The costliest item on the menu is a three-course meal available at the cost of Rs 61. While a chapati is available for Rs 1, a paratha can be bought for Rs 3.
It may come as a shocker for many, but such has been the case since the canteen came into place. And as a matter of fact, even inflation has not been able to affect the one-of-its-kind pricing of food items in the canteen, with prices remaining almost stable for the last five years.
Looking at the menu, one would certainly agree with the infamous statement of actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar, who had claimed that one can have proper food in the national capital for Rs 5. But for that, one needs to become a Member of Parliament.
Hold your appetite and take a look at the menu:
