VS should keep off electoral politics: Azhikode
Noted writer Dr S Azhikode on Wednesday said it was time Achuthanandan distanced himself from electoral politics.

Thrissur: Noted critic and writer Dr Sukumar Azhikode on Wednesday said it was time Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan distanced himself from 'electoral politics'. Speaking to reporters here, Azikode said Achuthanandan was a 'very senior citizen' and hence should refrain from jumping into the electoral bandwagon this time in the April 13 elections to the state assembly.

The CPI(M) is in a dilemma on whether or not to allow Achuthanandan to contest, he said. Achuthanandan should keep away from the contest and be an example to United Democratic Front (UDF) leaders like Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala, he said.

On K Muraleedharan, who recently was re-admitted to the Congress, contesting the elections, Azhikide said Murali had all the right to contest the election and it was up to him to contest or not.

However, he said it would be better for his political career if he kept away from the electoral fray this time following the death of his father, K Karaunakaran recently.

Asked for his views on film stars contesting elections, Azhikode said the politically-conscious electorate of Kerala had not welcomed the actors testing political waters on previous occasions.
