The Apple iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 plus will now sell for Rs 2,500 more than their earlier retail prices.

New Delhi: After India's finance minister, Arun Jaitley, announced in the budget an increase in excise duty on mobile phones imported in the country, tech giant Apple has decided to increase the retail price of its flagship smartphones.

A more than double increase in the excise duty, from the earlier 6 per cent to 12.5 per cent, has impacted the prices of iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 plus which will now sell for Rs 2,500 more than their earlier retail prices.

If the reported hike is to be believed then the iPhone 5S will now cost Rs 47,000 for 16GB (earlier for Rs 44,000) and Rs 51,000 for the 32GB model (earlier for Rs 49,000). The iPhone 6 will cost Rs 56,000 for 16 GB(earlier for Rs 53,000); 64GB for Rs 65,000 (earlier for Rs 62,500); and 128GB variant for Rs 74,000 (earlier for Rs 71,000).

The iPhone 6 Plus will cost Rs 65,000 for 16GB (launched at Rs 62,500), Rs 74,000 for 64GB (launched at Rs 71,500) and Rs 83,000 for 128GB models (launched for Rs 80,500).
