Since its release in November 2006, Sony has sold hundreds of millions of games for its PlayStation3. Here are five standout games from the console's history.

Uncharted

In November 2007, one year after the PS3 launched, Sony introduced the world to its latest hero -- adventurer Nathan Drake, the star of its "Uncharted" franchise. Following the success of the first instalment, "Drake's Fortune," two follow-ups were released for the PS3, one in 2009 and one in 2011. As of last May, the PS4 picked up where its predecessor left off, with a fourth instalment of "Uncharted" called "A Thief's End," taking the saga to 17.3 million sales worldwide.

Grand Theft Auto V

Released in September 2013, "GTA V" is the Japanese console's best-selling game of all time with 21.5 million sales. The PS3 version also outsold the Xbox 360 release (16.3 million). In total, Rockstar's cult game has sold 70 million copies, making it one of the biggest-selling titles in video game history.

Gran Turismo 5

In November 2010, the famous auto racing franchise and Sony exclusive landed on PS3 with a fifth instalment packed with new features (physical damage, weather changes, real-time day/night cycles). Some 11 million gamers got behind the wheel for this new edition, despite the success of the GT4 "Prologue" release in 2007.

The Last of Us

Considered one of the most successful Sony exclusives, this game, released in June 2013, was developed by Naughty Dog, the studio that made "Uncharted." Set in a post-apocalyptic world, players must fight for survival while also escorting a young sidekick through the ravaged landscape. The opus topped seven million sales and, like "Uncharted," is of keen interest to Hollywood producers, who have been working on a big-screen adaptation for several years.

Little Big Planet

This refreshing and creative puzzle platform game stands out by letting gamers design their own levels and share them online. The fantasy world of Sackboy, the game's entirely customizable knitted hero, won over more than nine million players with its two instalments, released in 2008 and 2011.
