New Delhi: After Facebook's purchase of Oculus Rift for a whopping $2 billion dollars, Google appears keen to join the virtual-reality bandwagon with reports stating that it is planning to take its Android operating system to VR headsets.
Virtual-reality is touted as the next big thing with tech giants exploring the arena for purposes other than pure gaming. Facebook acquired Oculus to together develop new ways of immersive storytelling via VR.
A report in The Verge stated that 'tens of engineers' are working on a project to develop a version of the operating system to boost virtual-reality apps.
The Android VR project is said to be led by Clay Bavor and Jeremy Doig. Bavor is partly responsible for Google Cardboard, a low-cost, do-it-yourself alternative to expensive headsets that turns your smartphone into a viewer.
