Samsung's recall of the new Galaxy Note 7 after battery explosion reports has impacted the smartphone's sales back in India. The South Korean giant has recalled the new flagship equipped with batteries it has found to be fire-prone and halted their sales in 10 markets.
As of September 1, there here have been 35 cases of battery explosion which have been reported globally.
In an emailed statement, Samsung India spokesperson said, "We are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have delayed sales of the Galaxy Note7 in India."
Samsung had sold 2.5 million of the premium devices so far, however, it is unclear how many of those are affected by the battery cell issue.
The recall comes just over two weeks after the company launched its latest premium phone, which features an outsized screen and high-resolution camera. It follows reports of the $885 phone igniting while charging.With inputs from Reuters
