New Delhi: May be it is not time for the HoloLens to fly to the space just yet. In a failed attempt of shooting off the SpaceX CRS-7 rocket into space, along with 1500 pounds of food and supplies for the astronauts up there, two of the virtual reality headsets by Microsoft were lost in the explosion.
The headsets were meant to be used by the astronauts on board the International Space Station under a program called Project Sidekick. The aim behind sending HoloLens was that people back on Earth could see what an astronaut was seeing through the augmented reality headsets.
It also aimed at reducing crew training requirements and increasing the efficiency at which astronauts can work in space.
However, within two minutes and 14 seconds after takeoff from NASA’s Cape Canaveral base in Florida, the rocket exploded, taking down the ambitions plans with it.
As Windows Central reports, another pair of HoloLens was scheduled to be sent up to the ISS later this year. They were supposed to be in full use on board the station by the end of the year. Augmented reality fans and space explorers might have to wait a bit before that dream is now realized.
