A young woman from Iowa, USA found herself in legal trouble after she allegedly fabricated stories about a man she had met on a dating app. According to the Law and Crime, 18-year-old Sumaya Thomas called police on June 16, claiming her ex-boyfriend was threatening her with violence. She asserted that he had sent messages threatening to hit, punch, kick and stab her. The man in question refuted these claims and showed text messages as evidence that he had only met Thomas through a dating app a week ago. Thomas, on the other hand, insisted that they had a two year history together and she was even carrying his child. However, the evidence showed by the men contradicted her story, which led to her arrest for filing a false report.
During the initial investigation, Thomas claimed the man was abusive and wouldn’t stop harassing her. She even stated that their conversations happened on Snapchat. However, officers later found out that she had deleted messages from her phone and revealed her claims were not true. Thomas further admitted that she made up the stories because she had second thoughts about meeting the man in person.
Thomas reportedly said she made up the story because she didn’t believe the police would be able to help her, and she thought making false accusations against the man would be more effective. Due to her false statements, the man was detained by officials for over an hour. Soon after the truth came out, Thomas was arrested and now, she’s facing multiple charges of making false reports. She is also charged with two counts of False Report of Indictable Offense to a Public Entity, a misdemeanour and one count of False Report on a 911 call. The offender was later released from the Johnson County Jail.
In a previous incident, a woman was arrested for allegedly sending over 159,000 text messages to a man she had only gone on a date once. After their initial meeting, she reportedly sent him at least 500 messages daily. The situation escalated when the man complained that his date was harassing him, issuing threats and even gave multiple death threats. The woman was later charged for threatening, stalking, harassing and failure to appear in court.
