Sometimes we end up ignoring signs of a fatal illness thinking it is something normal, even if it may not seem like it. People need to be aware of their bodies as it could save them from even dying. A similar thing happened with this elderly woman from England, who initially thought that she was suffering from anxiety, but it turned out to be something far worse.
As per a report in The Sun, the woman, 55-year-old Michelle Richards experienced fatigue and burnout after returning from a three-week vacation in Australia. The report stated further that she felt anxious and panicky after coming back.
She was prescribed anti-anxiety medications by her general physician which she refused and went for therapy. But when she suffered from three focal seizures, which affected only one side of the brain and body, she was sent to Leighton Hospital in Chesire, England.
She underwent a CT scan which showed a mass on her brain, revealed to be a benign brain tumour, medically called meningioma. This year in January she had the tumour removed through a successful surgery. It was reported to be 5 cm by 5 cm big.
Michelle used to be a senior service manager and therapist, someone who was considerate about her health, so this unfortunate revelation came as a shock to her. According to her, she is a “naturally healthy person,” since she regularly engages in walking and exercising. She said, “I eat reasonably well- I don’t drink or smoke- so when they told me I had a brain tumour, I was in complete shock.”
Last year in January, she experienced problems at her work but thought it was nothing unusual. Returning from her trip almost a month later, she felt anxious going back to the workplace. In the following weeks, her symptoms did not recede so she went to her general physician. In November 2023, she was diagnosed with a tumour. The doctors revealed that it was a “life-threatening” mass which had to be removed as soon as possible.
