According to the reports, the special stone is found in the village of Habur, which is 50 kilometres from Jaisalmer. It is known as “Habur stone” and has been a part of the villagers’ life for a long time. Now, it has hit the markets of Jaisalmer, becoming a big attraction among consumers. In the city, the stone as well as the goods created from it are a big hit, especially for tourists. The special curd-turning properties of this stone are its biggest selling point.

The stone has been used for generations in the village, states more reports. Going by some scientific research, this stone may contain certain elements like amino acids, phenylalanine and riftafen tyrosine. These elements are known to accelerate the process of natural fermentation, the process with which curd is made. The locals of Habur village use it as a home remedy to make curd and only have good things to say.

Earlier, the stone was only found in possession of the local people of Jaisalmer but now, it is available across several markets of the city. The stone is also being converted into home décor items by the artists and it is being sold at expensive rates by the traders. A local businessman named Ramchandra said that the stone is now in gradual demand, especially after the people are coming to know about its properties. The utensils made with Habur stone are also being used in hotels and restaurants.
