A woman is making headlines for her battle with a rare, chronic condition known as mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS). The condition makes it almost impossible for her to kiss anyone. Therefore, she has come up with a unique idea wherein her potential partner is expected to follow a set of rules.
Caroline Cray Quinn, a Boston-based TikTok user, in one of the videos posted online listed three rules to prevent herself from a potentially dangerous situation. She said, “Rule No. 1 is that they can’t have any of my six main anaphylactic allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, kiwi, mustard or seafood) within 24 hours of kissing me.”
“The second rule is that they can’t eat anything three hours prior to kissing me,” she added in the video. Then comes the third rule wherein the woman commands the person to brush his teeth. The set of rules, though strict, must be followed to ensure that Caroline’s romantic involvement with her partner does not cause her a physical issue.
According to the New York Post, the Tok Tok vlogger’s chronic disease causes her cells to identify severe allergens instantly. Diagnosed with the disease in 2017, she reflected on the same in a conversation with the same portal. Caroline told them, “I got sick with MCAS in September of 2017 after one true allergic reaction to cross-contamination with nuts spiralled into a series of anaphylactic episodes to foods I wasn’t allergic to.”
Her allergist, suspecting that it could be MCAS, asked her to see a specialist. Eight months after the same, the vlogger saw an MCAS specialist who officially diagnosed her with the disease. Speaking on how she avoids any flare-ups, Caroline admitted to avoiding triggers like “food, animal fur/dander, mould, dust, heat, and certain smells.”
In the video, she even revealed taking little calculated risks to live a full and happy life instead of completely avoiding kissing. Reportedly, Caroline is now dating Ryan and has introduced him to her “super restrictive diet of oats and formula.”
