The venue confirmed that it was not a scam- Sophie and Jeff were indeed asking their guests to cover the expenses of attending their wedding.

Have you ever heard of someone inviting a guest to an event and then asking them to cover the expenses? Recently, a post went viral on Reddit, revealing just such an incident, sparking curiosity and igniting debates on social media. The user who shared the story, with the handle @Lemonkitty_, posted it in Reddit’s group @r/EntitledPeople. While the incident didn’t happen to the poster, it involved their friend, Jack, a 36-year-old from Britain.

Jack received an invitation to the wedding of Sophie, 35, from the US and Jeff, 36, who had been his long-time friends. After accepting the invitation, he was sent a follow-up email thanking him for RSVPing. However, at the bottom of the email, there was another link labelled “click here for payment.”

Confused, Jack clicked the link and found a payment request for Rs 2 lakh. Baffled, he immediately called the wedding venue, assuming it was either a mistake or a scam. To his shock, the venue confirmed that it was not a scam- Sophie and Jeff were indeed asking their guests to cover the expenses of attending their wedding. Although Jack was taken aback, he reluctantly paid the amount for the sake of his friendship.

Things only got worse when Jack arrived at the wedding. He was astonished to discover that the guests had to pay separately for their food and drinks, adding to the overall cost. In the end, Jack found himself facing a bill of Rs 25,000. Unable to pay the full amount, he negotiated with the venue and managed to settle the bill at a reduced rate.

The most surprising part of this entire episode came when Jack realised that Sophie and Jeff had covered most of their wedding costs by charging their guests.

The post quickly went viral on Reddit, prompting a wave of reactions from users who expressed their disbelief and outrage. Many commented on how unethical it was for the bride and groom to deceive their guests and leave them to bear the financial burden of the celebration. The post has since drawn significant attention, with people sharing their shock and disgust over this bizarre situation.
