Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently sparked controversy by promoting an alternate way to treat common viral infections on her Instagram story. In a now-unavailable post, the Family Man actress had shared a photo of her using a nebuliser with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and distilled water, instead of traditional medicines. This alternative method caught the attention of Dr Cyriac Abby Philips, aka The Liver Doc, who publicly criticised Samantha by calling her “health and science illiterate.” He argued that nebulising with hydrogen peroxide could be harmful rather than beneficial and even suggested that individuals promoting such treatments should be fined and face legal consequences
Reacting to her advice, the doctor wrote, “Influential Indian actress Samantha Ruth who is unfortunately a health and science illiterate advising millions of her followers to inhale hydrogen-peroxide to prevent and treat respiratory viral infections. Scientific society, The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, warned people to not nebulize and breathe in hydrogen peroxide because it is dangerous for health. In a rational and scientifically progressive society, this woman will be charged with endangering public health and fined or put behind bars. She needs help or a better advisor in her team. Will India’s Health Ministry or any health regulatory body do something about these social media health influencers damaging public health or will they remain spineless and let people die?”

A day after Dr Cyriac Abby Philips criticised Samantha, the actress seemed disappointed with his remarks. In a long note on Instagram, the Kushi star explained that she had only suggested the treatment with good intentions based on her personal experiences. She clarified that the treatment was recommended by a highly qualified MD doctor with 25 years of service in DRDO.
Without mentioning Philips’ name, she found his response very aggressive, especially when he suggested that she should be jailed. She was disappointed that he chose to criticise her using such harsh terms, despite her attempt to share beneficial advice.
Samantha even suggested that it would have been better if The Liver Doc had politely asked for a discussion with her doctor. She shared that she would have welcomed the opportunity to learn from two well qualified experts.
