Flipkart Takes Down 'Aalsi, Bewakoof' Big Billion Days Sale Ad on Husbands After Online Backlash
Flipkart Big Billion Days Sale: The Bengaluru-based company not only removed its 'misandrist, misogynist' ad after massive backlash but also apologised for it.

Flipkart Big Billion Days Sale went live on Friday, September 27, but the lead-up to the event was marred by controversy. The Bengaluru-based company promoted the sale via an advertisement referring to husbands as “aalsi, kambakkht, and bewakoof”. The Internet soon started bashing the Walmart-owned company left and right for what they called the “misandrist” and “toxic” advertisement. In response, the e-commerce giant pulled the controversial ad and apologised for it, adding that they will do “better in the future”.

The animated advertisement aimed to offer women clever tips on how to discreetly order and stash handbags from Flipkart without their husbands finding out. While the concept tied to the ‘Big Billion Days’ sale seemed harmless, the issue arose when the narrator described husbands as “aalsi, kambakkht, and bewakoof,” and even suggested how women can hide their “special friend” who visited while their husbands were away.

After the massive backlash, Flipkart said, “We’re sorry for the offending video which was posted in error, and took it down as soon as we realised our mistake. We will do better in the future.”

The Big Billion Days Sale will conclude on October 6.
