It is believed that this banyan tree is the largest and oldest in Etawah.

The Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Park, located at the Etawah in Uttar Pradesh, is home to a remarkable and ancient banyan tree, which is not only a natural wonder but also a significant part of the local heritage. This banyan tree is estimated to be around 500 years old, making it one of the oldest living entities in the region. Its grandeur is evident in its vast spread, as the tree has extended its branches and roots over a large area, covering nearly 100 feet in diameter. The roots of the tree have become so expansive that they have spread out within a 100-meter radius, showcasing the tree’s resilience and strength.

Uday Chandra Kaushal, an inspector from the Etawah District Horticulture Department, shared with Local 18 that this banyan tree in Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Park is not just an old tree but a living testimony to the history and evolution of the region. For centuries, this tree has been providing pure and fresh air to millions of people who visit the park. It stands as a natural air purifier, contributing significantly to the local environment by offering a green lung to the surrounding urban landscape.

The park is a popular spot for morning and evening walks, and the giant banyan tree has become a focal point for many visitors. Hundreds of women come here with their children on the occasion of Amavasya to perform worship. Additionally, thousands of people sit under the tree every day to enjoy the fresh air.

Hundreds of people passing through the Etawah-Mainpuri road sit under the shade of this tree to enjoy the coolness. It is believed that this banyan tree is the largest and oldest in Etawah. People also know this park by the name Company Bagh. However, officially, the park was named after socialist leader Dr Ram Manohar Lohia in 2012. Approximately 5,000 people visit the park daily.
