As conventional stereotypes go, it is commonly believed that men have little concern for personal hygiene or cleanliness. Now a viral post on X is reinforcing this stereotype. As per an instigating post, an X user shared a picture of an old and yellow-stained pillow and claimed that this pillow helps him get great sleep despite being so worn out. He wrote, “Gf is mad at me because I have revealed to her The Yellow Pillow. Fellas, I’m sure you all know that this thing is magic.” This post gathered over 4.6 million views and 63,000 likes with many people relating to the post. In the follow-up post, the same X user added, “It’s not my fault the pillow is yellow and bestows upon me the most peaceful slumber.”

Many people defended the musty pillow as the “guaranteed sleep machine.” In response to the above-mentioned post, an X user wrote, “1/3rd of our time is spent snoozing, and this one buddy provides some of the most comfortable times of your entire life, thank you yellow pillow for your friendship.”
Several people were quick to claim that their quality of sleep has significantly degraded ever since they tossed their old ‘yellow pillow’. Making this point, an X user wrote, “I got rid of my yellow pillows maybe a year ago and I legit haven’t rested comfortably since.” Another wrote, “Best sleep ever using this sweat soaked abomination.” An X user explained that he is very attached to his old pillow and wrote, “That one pillow is so loyal and I don’t have it in me to throw it out. it’s been with me through the hardest times.”
In response to the loyal posts about the old pillows, many people also expressed the feeling of ridicule and disgust. A person reposted the yellow pillow’s photo and wrote, “If you go to his house and see these leaves.” Another wrote, “I give thanks everyday I wake up that this is not the kind of man i have to deal with.” An X user suggested, “Guys it’s not hard to wash a pillow, there’s nothing cool about bacteria infested pillows.”
Experts suggest that one should regularly wash or replace the old pillows. Unwashed pillows become a hotbed of bacteria and grime that can cause acne or rashes. In serious cases, an unhygienic pillow that is full of dust mites can trigger respiratory issues.
