During a flight from London to Bangkok, a man named Mark Garland had an astonishing encounter when he stumbled upon his doppelganger. Beyond sharing the same name, the two men discovered uncanny similarities, including similar hobbies, the same number of children, and even mutual friends. The surprising revelation occurred when Garland, a bus driver from Trowbridge, UK, was informed by airport staff that he had already checked in. After 40 minutes of confusion, it was unveiled that there were indeed two Mark Garlands on the flight. Meeting in the departure lounge, the two realised their physical resemblance.
The coincidences persisted as they found themselves seated next to each other on the plane, realising they lived just 15 miles apart and both were single fathers with four children. Bonding over shared interests, such as their love for Thailand, a country they had both visited extensively, they were astonished to discover that the 62-year-old Mark had even ridden on the younger Mark’s bus.
As per Unilad, the bus driver Mark Garland said, “We were so shocked by how strange it was. We both kept laughing and smiling about it, it made me happy. I said, ‘You have caused me so much problems’ and he said, ‘You have caused me so much problems’. I said, ‘Look, I’m Mark Garland’, showing him my passport and he started laughing and opened his passport and showed me his name and it was banter’.”
Meanwhile, the 62-year-old Mark added, “It was crazy, I have never known anything like it. They said there was another Mark Garland. They came to the bar and asked to see my passport. I was thinking, ‘What is going on’. My name was coming out of the antenna and my phone was going. I go to the desk and there’s a bloke who looks just like me, but he’s a bit bigger than me. I’m better looking and older. He’s like me, I’ve got a character and I love winding people up we’re the same. He’s actually a nice bloke, I’ve got to say.”
Following their unexpected encounter, the two men, who felt an instant connection, expressed their astonishment at the remarkable coincidence and vowed to stay in touch as friends. The 62-year-old Mark also mentioned that despite a slight height difference, many people have suggested that they could be brothers. He added that one of his colleagues is close friends with the younger Mark, and they often socialise together in a local pub.
