A harrowing race against time unfolded as onlookers gathered to watch flash flood waters crash down King Abdullah Road in Hotat Bin Tamim, Saudi Arabia. The incident took place after heavy thunderstorms in the area brought localised flooding on March 3, 2018. Amidst this rushing water, a truck found itself caught in the middle of the waters, facing the brunt of the flash flood waters wrath and narrowly escaping being carried away. The video of the same went viral online, causing a stir and giving goosebumps to the viewers.

The terrifying clip, originally captured in 2018, shows a lone truck trapped by rapidly advancing floodwaters and accelerating to reach higher ground before being seconds away from being engulfed by the floods. The truck’s driver, surrounded by waters on both sides, can be seen piercing his way through the sand and competing against the waters to escape with his life. Ultimately, he made it through the waters and won the battle of life.

This old video was a hit online, garnering more than 387,000 views and a plethora of reactions from users who got chills down their spines watching the video. Many viewers lauded the driver’s skills and quick thinking to tackle the deadly situation swiftly.

As per the Saudi civil defence services, several people were rescued from vehicles immersed in floodwaters in 2018. Winter rainstorms and flooding hit Jeddah almost every year, and people have long complained about the city’s poor infrastructure.

In addition to that, severe flash flooding hit western parts of Saudi Arabia after heavy rain on November 24, 2022, resulting in at least two fatalities. In six hours, the city of Jeddah in Mecca Province recorded 179 mm of rain.
