Peru Woman Ate Metal Nail While Eating Pork Rinds And Then This Happened
Initially, the woman thought that it was a bone but soon began vomiting blood and became gravely ill.

A 68-year-old woman named Celia Trello from Peru, South America became extremely ill after consuming a bag of pork rinds (pig skin that’s been transformed into a crispy, aerated, chip-like snack). As per The Mirror, Trello felt like a sharp object had hit her throat while eating. Initially, she thought that it was a bone but soon began vomiting blood and became gravely ill.

Celia was taken to the emergency ward when doctors discovered that she had consumed a metal nail and it was piercing one of her carotid arteries. This artery helps supply oxygen and blood to the brain. We have two carotid arteries, one on either side of our neck. Carotid artery disease causes up to one-third of all strokes. A stroke happens when something blocks blood flow to your brain, causing brain injury.

In a conversation with the ABS-CBN news, Celia Trello said,” I felt ill and I came here because I thought I had a bone in my throat, it never crossed my mind I had this nail or piece of wire.” Surgeon Diego Cuipal explained how his team of surgeons worked carefully to save the Peru woman’s life. He said that we discovered the metallic object, the nail, was piercing the artery. As per the surgeon, they had to carry out a careful dissection due to the risk of detaching a clot that could reach the brain. Post the dissection, the surgeons were able to isolate the affected area and repair it by sectioning it. They concluded the surgery by joining a healthy artery with another healthy artery. Celia has now fully recovered.

Similar incidents have been reported in the past as well where people discovered nails in their sausages. A man named Anek had accidentally eaten a fingernail found in his Burger King meal in 2018. Anek had told a portal named Fox 8 that he ended up vomiting three times. In 2019, a Massachusetts Chipotle customer allegedly bit into a nail in his burrito (a common cylindrical food item of Mexican and American origin) and chipped his tooth.
