Punjab Kings Buys 'Wrong' Shashank Singh at IPL Auction, Internet 'Swings' into Action With Memes
Punjab Kings mistakenly buys SRH's Shashank Singh at IPL 2024 auction and internet can't stop laughing with memes.

The IPL 2024 auction unfolded like a gripping blockbuster, featuring unexpected twists and turns that kept fans on the edge of their seats! From jaw-dropping bids for players to intense franchise rivalries, the Dubai auction marked the thrilling commencement of the IPL excitement.

However, amidst the adrenaline-pumping moments, Punjab Kings (PBKS) added an unexpected plot twist. In a mix-up that resembled a scene from a comedy of errors, PBKS accidentally acquired Shashank Singh, a 32-year-old uncapped player hailing from Chattisgarh, previously with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shashank had gone unsold in the previous auction, but fate took a humourous turn as PBKS unintentionally welcomed him into their squad. As the franchise celebrated its latest addition, team owners Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta soon realised the blunder. It turned out they had confused Shashank with another player, but the rules of the auction prevented them from reversing the decision.

So, while Shashank celebrates the financial rewards of this unexpected deal, he enters the season with the knowledge that the franchise initially didn’t intend to choose him but had a different namesake in mind.

Thereby, the internet, true to its nature, erupted with memes and lighthearted jabs at the player and the overall goof-up, turning social media into a laughter-filled arena.

The confusion unfolded during the accelerated bidding phase when Shashank’s name echoed in the auction hall, prompting the auctioneer Mallika Sagar to kickstart the bidding war. Punjab Kings, inadvertently becoming the sole bidders for Shashank, secured his services in Dubai. However, the realization of the blunder struck Wadia and Preity Zinta moments after the hammer confirmed the purchase. Despite their attempts to rectify the error, Mallika Sagar pointed out the auction rule that once the hammer falls, the decision stands.

On a brighter note, Shashank brings a T20 record of 55 matches, boasting 724 runs with a striking strike rate of 135.83, coupled with 15 wickets.
