In a very bizarre incident reported from Rajasthan, a man has alleged that his wife sought divorce to take advantage of a supposed “divorce quota” in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam. The man, from Kalwar Road, lodged a complaint at Kardhani police station in Jaipur, while the woman’s family has denied the existence of any such “divorce quota” in the UPSC. Additionally, she has filed a case of dowry harassment against her husband in Pratapgarh.
According to Sub Inspector Ashish Kumar of Kardhani police station, the man reported the incident on May 11 against his wife, who is a resident of Pratapgarh. The complainant, a photographer, claimed that they married a year ago following Hindu customs and traditions. He alleged that his wife sought divorce “to avail the divorce quota in the UPSC exam,” as detailed in a report from ‘Voice for Men India’.

The couple, who had a love marriage after meeting in 2013 in Pratapgarh, allegedly maintained contact when the woman came to Jaipur for studies in 2016, eventually leading to a live-in relationship. They became engaged in 2021. The complainant revealed that his wife secured a government position through the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) quota in September 2022. Subsequently, she disclosed her ambition to prepare for the UPSC exam before abruptly terminating the engagement.
However, she agreed to reconsider if the man assisted her in cracking the UPSC exam. Consequently, they tied the knot in February 2023 in Pratapgarh. The husband claims that upon returning to Jaipur, his wife left their home the very next day.
She went back to her parent’s home and informed the man that they would live separately for a year before filing for mutual divorce. The man claimed that she reminded him of his promise to help her with anything for the sake of the UPSC.
When he visited her in Pratapgarh to celebrate their first anniversary, she allegedly asked for a divorce and threatened to falsely implicate him in a case if he refused. He then approached the police, who registered a case based on his report.
Conversely, the wife presents a contrasting narrative, accusing her husband of dowry harassment and emotional manipulation in marriage. Correspondingly, a dowry harassment case stands registered against him in Pratapgarh district.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the UPSC does not provide any specific quota for divorced individuals, extending reservations exclusively to SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and individuals with disabilities, alongside an age relaxation of up to five years.
