Museums let us take a glimpse of the past. Today, we will talk about one museum in Uttar Pradesh, which was built over a hundred years ago and houses ancient manuscripts and texts. As per reports, the museum was constructed on the instructions of Siddha Purush Khatkhata Baba. It is located on the banks of the Yamuna River, in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh. The place has thousands of manuscripts, rare texts consisting ancient literature, handwritten text on palm leaves and banquet leaves along with a lot of other priceless stuff. Through its preservation, the place aimed to give the generations a glimpse of the ancient culture and heritage of our country. Because of lack of maintenance, the preserved heritage in this museum is gradually losing its charm and existence, Local18 reports.
It houses more than 15,000 books in several Indian languages, according to the information given. These texts have been tied in cloths and placed in 10 cupboards, kept in 4 rooms. The place was also installed with a sundial, which accurately told the time from sunrise to sunset, but it has lost its form. Going by more information, this watch is reportedly sixteen years old.
In 1965, the then in-charge of this museum, Mahipal Singh, went to Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. From the place, he brought a “non-submergence stone.” It is now considered a significant heritage of the museum. A visitor could find handwritten texts on palm leaf and bhoj patra. These texts consist of religious texts like Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads and other religious texts.
This Sanskrit Vidyapeeth was established in 1866 by Khatkhata Baba’s disciple Shri Brahmnath. He was posted as a Deputy Commissioner in Etawah, who was influenced by Baba and later became a devoted disciple.
