Curious about what happens to your luggage after check-in? Many travellers share this curiosity, especially after seeing their suitcases return to a battered state upon arrival. To avoid damage and track their bags, some people have started using cameras or Apple AirTags. Recently, one traveller took it a step further by attaching a GoPro to his bag, capturing the entire journey and revealing the behind-the-scenes process of baggage handling.
Shared on the YouTube channel of Click on Detroit, the short video was titled “POV: You’re a checked bag at DTW getting to your plane". However, those expecting to witness the luggage being kicked or tossed will be disappointed. The clip has nothing but the suitcase going down a series of conveyor belts before being finally loaded onto the plane.
For this lucky traveller, their suitcase heads down a series of conveyor belts ahead of being loaded onto the plane. However, what looks more interesting is the overall process of moving the luggage from the check-in counters to the plane without the intervention of a staff member. A robotic table is at play, which collects and moves the baggage before the final security scan.
The video has left internet users divided, with many left unconvinced that it is not the same case for everyone. A user wrote, “CLICKBAIT! There’s sections missing, and it’s not complete to the end," while another commented, “Where’s the part where minimum wage baggage handlers throw it into a trolley and then throw it again in the airplane undercarriage?"
“Oh that explains why our brand new luggage was so damaged… They should be held accountable," another one commented.
The YouTube clip has garnered numerous views and likes on the platform. Notably, many such videos have gone viral, exposing how luggage is often mishandled by staff members. In a previous instance, a traveller attached a tiny camera to his suitcase and shared its intriguing journey. The clip showcased the suitcase being wheeled to the drop-off point at the airport, placed on a lengthy conveyor belt, navigating several twists and turns, passing through a security screening machine, and ultimately ending up on a large pile of other suitcases.
