Elephants are one of the most adorable animals. Known for its strength and cute antics, videos showcasing these majestic creatures quickly capture viewers’ attention, especially those featuring animal rescues or their adventurous antics, which never fail to delight wildlife enthusiasts. Recently, a team of Tamil Nadu forest officials in the Gudalur division of the Nilgiris received widespread admiration from online users for their efforts.
The team rescued a baby elephant which accidentally fell into a deep sand well. Appreciating the rescue team, IAS officer Supriya Sahu shared short clips of the rescue mission on X (Formerly Twitter).

“A very heartening news is coming in just now about the successful rescue and reunion of a juvenile elephant in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Foresters in Gudalur Forest Division in Nilgiris have successfully rescued a juvenile elephant from a 30 feet deep sand well in a farmland where the young elephant had accidentally fallen,” Supriya Sahu wrote in the caption of her post.
“After 8 hours of a challenging battle, the team succeeded in making a ramp for the elephant to safely walk out of the well. After the rescue, the team united the baby elephant with her mother who patiently waited nearby with the herd. Big appreciation to DFO Gudalur, Vengatesh Prabhu who led the operation with a team of 40 people from 3 am onwards,” Supriya Sahu added.
The rescue team made a ramp for the elephant to walk out of the well. Meanwhile, the baby elephant’s mother waited nearby with the herd for her baby calf. As soon as the clip was dropped, social media users shared their thoughts in the comments section. “A big salute to the entire team,” wrote a user. Another commented, “Kudos to the team of foresters.”
A while ago, Supriya Sahu felicitated the field officers who reunited a lost baby elephant with its mother and herd at a tiger reserve. She congratulated the field staff of the Manampalli squad at the Anamalai Tiger Reserve for their dedicated service.

Sahu revealed that she was proud to meet Manikandan, the officer who led the rescue mission in December 2023. The IAS officer also appreciated Prabhakaran, an anti-poaching watcher, who had taken the viral photograph of the baby elephant with its mother.
