'We Don’t Wear $10,000 Suits': Google Techie's ‘Very Demure’ Take On Office Attire Is Hilarious
In the video, the Google employee explains that he doesn't wear expensive suits or watches to work but keeps them "very demure and very mindful".

The phrase “very mindful, very demure” became popular thanks to TikTok user Jools Lebron, who used it to describe makeup and fashion choices suitable for different settings. The trend highlights being appropriate and reserved in one’s appearance. Michael Jiang, a Google employee, humorously joined the trend, sharing his own take on how he dresses at work, and the results are just hilarious.

“What it’s like to work at Google. Very demure. Very mindful. Very, my stock options haven’t fully vested yet, and I would like a raise, please,” he wrote in the caption.

In the video, Michael Jiang humorously showcases his office attire, describing it as “very demure, very mindful.” While giving a tour of the office, he jokes, “We are not investment bankers. We don’t wear $10,000 suits and $100,000 watches.” He then highlights his Garmin watch, which he calls “very demure and very healthy,” adding a fun twist to the trend.

Further in the video, Michael Jiang shares that he is involved in the Google Pixel launch event, humorously describing the new phones as “very demure” and “very cutesy.” The video quickly went viral, eliciting fun reactions from viewers.

One commenter remarked, “New vocab learned. Demure: reserved, modest, and shy,” while another complimented Jiang’s delivery, saying, “I like your emphasis on ‘Very demure’! The way you speak in the video is lit.”

“Me googling this demure trend. I’ve no clue,” a user wrote. Internet loved Jiang’s excitement about winning the free Tokyo trip. One wrote, “You do seem to love free trips,” while another added, “I get a free flight to Tokyo I’m in.”

The Viral “Demure” And “Mindful” Trend

Earlier in August, Lebron in a TikTok video titled “How to Be Demure at Work” demonstrated her own interpretation of the term where she chooses simple makeup and hairstyles for work, instead of dramatic eye makeup. While the TikTok video itself garnered over 22 million views, it inspired a series of similar videos on social media.

Traditionally, “demure” means being “affectedly modest, reserved, or serious.”
