'What is Putra Moh?': Saif Ali Khan Fails to Understand 'Basic' Hindi on KWK, Shamed Online
Saif Ali Khan fails to understand the meaning of 'Moh' on 'Koffee With Karan', embarrasses mother Sharmila Tagore and online viewers alike.

In the latest installment of ‘Koffee With Karan’ that graced our screens last Thursday, a rare spectacle unfolded as the iconic couch played host to a dynamic mother-son duo for the very first time. The seasoned Sharmila Tagore and her son, the renowned Hindi film industry actor Saif Ali Khan, took centre stage as the featured guests on the much-talked-about 10th episode of Karan Johar’s eighth-season talk show. While several moments from the episode have already made headlines, one particular incident that drew attention and somewhat upset Bollywood fans was Saif’s apparent struggle with basic Hindi, despite being an acclaimed actor in the Hindi film industry.

The incident unfolded as KJo highlighted the unique bond between a mother and son. However, the 79-year-old actress intervened with a comment, proclaiming, “It’s Putra Moh.” Saif, visibly perplexed, interrupted, questioning the meaning of ‘Putra Moh’ and speculating whether it was Bengali. His mother, taken aback, retorted, “Excuse me, you are a Hindi actor.”

What followed was a gradual unravelling as Sharmila Ji patiently decoded the phrase for both Saif and KJo. While the men quickly grasped that ‘Putra’ meant son, the elusive nature of ‘Moh’ left their supposedly ‘intelligent’ minds befuddled. Initially, they guessed it to be ‘My son’ or Saif even suggested a connection to ‘Gulmohar.’ However, Sharmila Ji couldn’t take it anymore and revealed that ‘Moh’ actually signifies attachment, leaving both Saif and KJo wide-eyed.

Can you believe it? A popular Hindi actor and a celebrated filmmaker found themselves grappling with the basics of the language, much to the disbelief of Sharmila Ji and the viewers, who wasted no time in unleashing their online disapproval.

“Moh is not Gulmohar dear Hindi actor. Moh means attachment as in Moh Maya, Ye Moh Moh ke dhaage…..,” scolded one user on the micro-blogging site ‘X’. Another disgruntled viewer expressed, “I would have smacked him on TV if my son was an acclaimed Hindi movie actor and he acted dumb like that.”

Adding to the chorus of criticism, a third user exclaimed, “You won’t believe when i tell you one of them is Hindi movie actor and other is Hindi movies maker,” while a fourth chimed in, “Sidhi saadi bhasha but these “Hindi” actors/producers do not know everyday words. How sad?”

Meanwhile, another riveting moment from the episode captured attention as Sharmila Ji delved into Saif’s divorce with Amrita Singh. Addressing the aftermath of the split as a ‘not so harmonious time,’ she reflected on the complexities of parting ways after a long and cherished companionship. “When you are together for such a long time and you have such lovely children, then no break up is easy. Then it is not a harmonious… I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt… so that stage was not nice but I tried. But that’s water under the bridge, she needed time to cool down.”

She even added that it was a somber period for the family, not only losing Amrita but also parting ways with her and Saif’s children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan.
