The Haryana government has declared winter vacation in all government and private schools in the state, from January 1 to January 15, 2024. This step has been taken after keeping in mind the health of the children, amid the growing cold in the state. According to reports, the schools will reopen in Haryana on January 16. The district education officers, district fundamental officers, and block education officials of every district in the state have received directives in this respect from the Haryana Education Department. Every year in winter, 15 days of holidays are given by the Haryana government.
Reports suggest there are chances of a further drop in temperatures in Haryana. Due to rain and snowfall in the hilly areas, the temperature has started falling in the plains. Along with this, cold winds are also blowing. So, it has been decided to keep the schools closed.
Last year also, the Haryana directorate of school education issued the same notification and declared winter vacation from January 1 to January 15, 2023, in all government and private schools in the state. Schools were reopened in the state on January 16. The students in 10th and 12th grades, however, had to attend classes. The classes were continued in view of the preparation of board exams for the students in grades 10 and 12.
Last year, apart from Haryana, schools in Delhi too remained closed from January 1 to 15. During this time, extra classes were conducted for the students in classes 9th to 12th.
The Bihar government also declared a holiday in the government schools of the state last year from December 26 to 31 in view of the cold. The Chhattisgarh government too announced holidays in all the schools in the state. There will be holidays in all the schools in the state starting on December 28.
