Before securing a job, candidates often navigate through a series of rigorous tests to demonstrate their skills. However, recent reports indicate that some companies are taking these processes to new levels of intensity. As reported by Business Insider, a TikTok user captured widespread attention by sharing her unconventional hiring journey. Despite applying for numerous positions, she received an invitation for an on-site test from only one company.
During this extensive 75-minute session, she delivered a presentation and had the opportunity to interact with several company employees. The woman believed she would finally get the job offer when she was invited to a “work happy hour” to meet the other members of the team.
However, the reality turned out differently and her expectations were about to be shattered. Upon attending the so-called “happy hour,” the woman found out that the event was packed with other applicants instead of company staff. She compared the experience to the reality show The Bachelor, where multiple contestants compete for a single job from the employer. Despite going through the hiring process, which included meeting company seniors, spending time presenting and attending the happy hour, the TikToker humorously revealed that she was rejected by the company.

Reacting to the post, a user joked, “Drunkest one gets hired.”
Another shared, “Naah these are the type of companies that call you family and end up firing you without notice cause of layoffs.”
“Employers really don’t care about wasting people’s time,” a comment read.
Another claimed, “I would’ve politely declined, I don’t mix business and personal life.”
An individual sharing a similar experience wrote, “This is nothing new. Before I started working for a consulting firm in NYC back in the 80s, I had 3 interviews, psychological testing and I had to attend a Yankees game with clients so the Principles could see how I interacted. I got the job.”
One more added, “I had a similar interview where all the candidates were invited to the firm’s annual conference and expected to network with the employees.”
Recent reports indicate a phenomenon dubbed Big Stay, where a significant number of employees are opting to remain in their current jobs, marking a stark contrast from the situation two years ago. However, amidst this trend, the job market has become fiercely competitive, exacerbated by major corporations implementing job cuts and layoffs due to financial constraints. Moreover, many job seekers are grappling with challenges in the recruitment process, such as encountering fake job advertisements on platforms like LinkedIn, experiencing neglect from recruiters, and facing new AI-driven recruitment tools that conduct initial interviews through AI chatbots.
