With the election just over two weeks away, Donald Trump on Sunday donned a black-and-yellow apron over his white shirt and red tie to serve french fries at a McDonald’s in the US state of Pennsylvania.
The campaign move by the former US President was intended as a rebuke of Kamala Harris, who says she worked at the fast-food franchise in her youth. Trump, a well-known fast food enthusiast, has repeatedly said that Harris never worked at a McDonald’s while in college, an experience she has spoken about during the campaign.
“We have checked with McDonald’s, and they say, definitively, that there is no record of Lyin’ Kamala Harris ever having worked there. In other words, she never worked there, and has lied about this job for years. Additionally, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden are killing franchises, want to end all franchises, which will destroy values and jobs. Also, remember, from me, No Tax On Tips,” he said in a post on Truth Social.

‘I don’t mind this job’
On Sunday, an employee of the restaurant patiently showed the 78-year-old Republican how to scoop fries into cartons to be distributed at the drive-through window, as media gathered for the photo-op outside.
Trump marveled at the serving tool used to distribute the fried potatoes without picking them up: “It’s clean, it’s really nice, you never touch ’em.” “I’ll never forget this experience,” he said, as he finished up the campaign stop meant to appeal to working-class voters. “It requires expertise. I’m going through the french fry stuff.”
“I don’t mind this job,” he continued, at one point asking if customers ever ask for more salt. “I love salt!” he exclaimed, also throwing some over his shoulder onto the floor, explaining that he is “superstitious.” Told by reporters that Sunday was also his opponent Harris’s 60th birthday, Trump wished her a “happy birthday.” “I think I’ll get her some flowers,” he quipped. “Maybe I’ll get her some fries.”
Most Competitive States
While Trump visited a McDonald’s, Democrat candidate Kamala Harris visited two churches on Sunday. Ahead of the November selections, both candidates were scrambling for votes in the most competitive states, with Harris, the US vice president, appealing to early voters in Georgia and Trump campaigning in Pennsylvania ahead of the Nov. 5 election.
Harris highlighted the heroism of those who responded to Hurricane Helene, which caused deaths and destruction in Florida earlier this month. She drew a contrast between her vision for America and the harsh rhetoric of the current political climate, although she did not mention Trump by name.
“At this point across our nation, what we do see are some trying to deepen division among us, spread hate, sow fear and cause chaos,” she told thousands of congregants at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, in Stonecrest, Georgia.
