US: Threat 'Neutralised' After Active Shooter Reported Outside Wisconsin School
School officials report an active shooter outside a Wisconsin middle school, but the threat has been neutralised. Police are ensuring student safety

An active shooter scare outside a middle school in the US state of Wisconsin prompted a lockdown on Wednesday.  The Mount Horeb Area School District later confirmed the threat was “neutralised.”

US media reports said law enforcement continued to sweep through the premises to ensure student safety. All district buildings enacted lockdown procedures around 11:15 am (local time). Mount Horeb is located some 32 kilometers southwest of Madison, the capital city of the state of Wisconsin.

On its Facebook page, the Mount Horeb Area School District wrote at 12.33 pm local time: “Community members, there has been an active shooter at our middle school this morning. The individual did not breach entryway. Police department is helping to scope out our building to ensure the safety of our students and staff.” “Please do not come to the middle school. We are in the process of activating our reunification plan and further details will be provided,” it added.

A second post said the District is on full lockdown. “We will direct you with further instructions as soon as possible. The safety and security of our students and staff is paramount. We are following our emergency protocols. We will update you when we have more information to share.” US media reports subsequently reported that the threat was “neutralised outside the building.” However, it remains unclear if that meant the shooter was killed or apprehended.
