'Never Witnessed Such a Blast': 3 Killed, 4 Injured in Bengaluru Explosion, Tremors Felt
The sudden explosion caused tremors in the nearby locality, while the locals initially thought it was a bomb blast, and later found found out about the explosion at the warehouse.

An explosion at a firecracker storage facility in the New Tharagupet area of Bengaluru killed at least three people and seriously injured four others on Thursday afternoon. The incident happened in Ryan Circle of Chamarajapete which falls under Vivipuram police limits.

“Two people killed, three others injured in a blast at a firecracker storage facility in Bengaluru earlier today,” DCP (South) Harish Pandey told news agency ANI. Fire tenders went to the spot to put out the fire.

The deceased were identified as Manohar (29) a native of Tamil Nadu, Aslam (45), Fayaz (50). The police and fire department suspects that a huge amount of firecrackers were stored inside the warehouse, which caught fire. However, the owner of the warehouse- Mr Babu, as stated by sources, is reportedly on the run.

According to eyewitnesses the intensity of the blast was huge and bodies of three deceased were flown at least 100 meters from the blast site. At least 20 motorbikes, a few cars, and auto-rickshaws were also damaged due to the explosion.

The sudden explosion had also caused tremors in the locality. The locals initially thought it was a bomb blast, speaking to News18, Ahmed Pasha, an eyewitness said that he had never witnessed such a blast ever. “I have a two-wheeler motor-bike garage near the blast site. We all heard huge explosion sounds and tremors. We thought it must be a bomb blast. Only after fire and emergency services visited, we learned that it’s not a bomb. We don’t know what was stored in the warehouse,” he added.

Senior police officials visited the spot and are investigating what really caused the explosion, while the forensic science laboratory team is also at the spot. Police are trying to catch Babu to know what has been stored in the warehouse.

This comes a day after a woman and her daughter were killed in a fire at their apartment in Bengaluru’s BTM Layout on Tuesday evening.

Police officials investigating the matter stated that the flat seems to have caught fire after a domestic cylinder blast. Eyewitnesses said the women could not be rescued as the blaze spread rapidly. Fire officials said the deceased, Lakshmi Devi, 82, and her daughter Bhagya Rekha, 59, lived on the third floor.
