The orange cap holder for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli had a fiery response to his biggest critics ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s clash against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Speaking in an interview with JioCinema, Kohli was very clear when asked about the criticism he has received throughout the ongoing season and ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. The RCB icon’s strike rate has been the talk of the town as many doubt whether he can do the job for the franchise and the Indian team ahead of the marquee tournament. But Kohli stood firm and backed himself.
He said, “I don’t need to react. I know what I can do on the ground. I don’t need to tell anyone about the kind of player I am and what my abilities are. I never asked people how to win games. I learned that by looking at the situation, failing and then I got it. It’s not that I have done it once or twice by chance. If you are there on so many occasions and doing it frequently then it cannot be chance”.

Another key point Kohli raised was the difference between watching the game from outside and playing in it. He even took the example of MS Dhoni who used to be criticised for taking the game deep on many occasions but Kohli believes that both himself and Dhoni know what they are doing and believes that both know what they are doing as they have finished games for his franchise and the country on various occasions.
“I always say that there is a massive difference between watching the game and experiencing it. People used to criticise MS Dhoni too on why he used to take the game so deep. He knows what he is doing and is winning it. That is knowing. For me, that is muscle memory. It’s different with me. I would think let’s finish it off in the 19th or 49th over,” Kohli compared the difference between himself and MS Dhoni.

As for the rising criticism from the experts, Kohli sees no need to ask them not to talk such things about him and believes that he has only performances under his belt which has put him on the level he is at today.
“Never felt the need to go out and ask someone not to say these things about me. I know what I can do on the ground. I don’t need anyone’s approval or assurance that I played well. I’m honestly telling you I have no interest in that,” he said.
“I only have one form of currency that is performances,” Kohli hit back at his biggest critics.

Now Kohli will gear up once again in red for the crucial match to decide who takes the fourth spot for the playoffs as he continues to pursue that maiden title for the franchise that has eluded them for so long.
But Chennai Super Kings stands in their way and will prove to be a tough opponent and the onus will be on Kohli once again to lead RCB with the bat and help them get past the defending champions.
