It wasn’t meant to be for MS Dhoni as the Chennai Super Kings missed out on a spot in the playoffs after suffering defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 27 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With speculations going about this being Thala’s last game in the Indian Premier League, Ambati Rayudu reckons that Dhoni might still continue if the BCCI can make things a bit more favourable for the veteran.
CSK ended their 2024 campaign with a heartbreaking loss to RCB. Dhoni was out in the middle in the final over and he looked set to go ahead and finish off the game once again, but Yash Dayal’s slower delivery managed to get the better of the former India skipper who was dismissed and CSK’s hopes of making it to the playoffs ended.
Speaking at Star Sports Cricket Live, Rayudu suggested that the legendary skipper still has some gas left in the tank and expressed that he wanted a more fitting ending for his former skipper.

“I don’t think this is his last game. I just don’t see him wanting to end on this note,” said the former CSK batter.
Rayudu suggested the impact player rule could help Dhoni continue playing for the franchise. But he also commented that the decision would be on the board and whether they want to see MS Dhoni continue playing in the IPL.

“With the impact player role as well, it gives him the opportunity to be able to come in those last few overs and truly make that impact,” he said.
“BCCI better not remove the impact player role because we still want to see MS Dhoni play. So, it’s up to BCCI now. Do we want to see MS Dhoni play or not,” he added.

Prior to the RCB vs CSK game, Virat Kohli had also mentioned his disapproval of the impact player rule and seconded Rohit Sharma’s take regarding the extra player. Kohli had suggested that the rule has tipped the balance in favour of the batters which is something he does not want.
The BCCI secretary Jay Shah had also revealed that the board would talk to the stakeholders of the IPL on the future implementation of the rule.
