Kolkata Knight Riders’ Ramandeep Singh has been fined 20 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s IPL 2024 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens on Saturday night.
“Ramandeep committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” the IPL said in a statement on Sunday.
The 27-year-old admitted to the offence and has accepted the match referee’s sanction.
As per IPL Code of Conduct, Article 2.2 deals with abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.
It Article 2.2 “includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board.”
Ramandeep played a good hand in KKR’s innings in what was a rain-curtailed contest against MI. He scored an unbeaten 17 off 8 as the former champions posted 157/7 in 16 overs after being put in to bat first.
Later, he took the catch of Suryakumar Yadav (11) playing his part in the dismissal of the key MI batter. The visitors eventually finished at 139/8 as KKR recorded an 18-run win to book their berth in IPL playoffs.
