Rohit Sharma Reaches Stellar Milestone Despite Poor Showing With Bat vs Bangladesh in 1st Test
Rohit became just the fifth player and first skipper to score 1000 runs in international cricket in 2024.

It may not have been the innings that Rohit Sharma envisioned coming into the second innings, but the Indian skipper nonetheless added another feather to his cap as he became the first captain to complete 1000 runs in international cricket in 2024 on Friday.

India’s batting dwindled early into the day today following their sensational recovery, thanks to R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, as the home team put up a strong total of 376 before being bundled out by Bangladesh.

But, the visitors themselves would fail to capitalise on their positive start to the day as the likes of Bumrah, Siraj and Akash Deep would run riot with the ball themselves, annihilating the batting ranks of Bangladesh to bowl them out for a measly 149 runs.

Taking up the bat yet again, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma aimed to come back strong with the willow, but once again struggled as he notched just 5 runs before he was removed from the crease by Taskin Ahmed.

This would be only the fourth time across Rohit’s Test career where he registered single-digit scores across both innings of a match.

Nonetheless, with his meagre score, Rohit still managed to reach another milestone, as he became just the fifth player and first skipper to score 1000 runs in international cricket in 2024.

It is also the 10th time the Indian skipper has achived this feat for his national side across the span of his career.

As a result of Rohit’s poor form, along with veteran talisman Virat Kohli’s dismal showing as well, a fan war has raged on social media, with ardent supporters of both batters engaging in friendly fire amongst themselves. Especially following Rohit’s seemingly enraged reaction to Kohli’s dismissal and missed DRS call to save his wicket.

But what all Indian fans can agree on and admire is Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery form against the visitors today.

Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah’s artistry seemed incomprehensible for an out-of-sorts Bangladesh batting line-up as India took complete control of the opening Test.

Bumraj (4/50) once again worked his magic in the company of Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep (2/19) and Ravindra Jadeja as Bangladesh were all-out for a paltry 149 in their first innings in reply to India’s 376.
